Before heading to Mexico City to play at Estadio Azteca, which sits 7,503 feet above sea level, the Patriots, who beat the Broncos in Denver last week, decided to remain in Colorado for the week and practice at the Air Force Academy, which is 7,200 feet above sea level. It remains to be seen if that will provide New England an advantage, but most players were happy to get acclimated to the altitude.

“My skin feels a lot drier,” said Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski. “A lot of people, their nose gets like super dry, mouth super dry. So just glad to be here and be able to prepare to what Mexico City will be. It’s good training. I’m glad we’re doing it.”

This game being played at altitude makes it somewhat difficult to predict, but if you look past those potential variables, if you just look at the football product, the Patriots are the clear favorite.

Offensively, Tom Brady and Co. remain deadly efficient. Despite an array of injuries, they rank fifth in the NFL in yards per play, second in turnover percentage, and first in Football Outsiders’ offensive efficiency rankings. After blitzing the Broncos for 41 a week ago, they should have little trouble moving the ball against a Raiders defense that ranks last in that same Football Outsiders metric and has allowed opponents to score on 43 percent of their drives, the worst mark in the NFL.

If the Raiders are going to keep this close, they’re likely going to have to turn it into a shootout. They certainly have the personnel to do exactly that, but it ultimately depends on which Patriots defense we see. Is it the one that gave up 32 points per game over the first four weeks of the season? Or the one that has allowed an average of just 13.4 points during their current five-game winning streak?

If it’s the former, we could have an entertaining, high-scoring battle on our hands. If it’s anything close to the latter, though, the Pats should have little trouble covering the seven-point spread in Mexico City.
